3rd Annual Family Fitness Fest: Helping Underserved Kids Get Active
The Orlando Orthopaedic Center Foundation and Sports 4 the Kids co-hosted Central Florida’s largest Saturday morning workout, the 3rd Annual Family Fitness Fest on Saturday, August 25, at the Sanford Civic Center.
The free indoor community event welcomed more than 500 attendees (including 40 families in transition transported to the event by LYNX) who participated in diverse fitness activities aimed at improving strength and agility for kids of all ages and activity levels. In all, 12 engaging fitness stations offered participants an opportunity to compete in unique, fun physical challenges.
“Our mission is to serve the youth of Central Florida and those who may not be able to afford to get involved in organized sports,” says Randy S. Schwartzberg, M.D., president of the Orlando Orthopaedic Center Foundation. “We have a lot of opportunities here today to sign kids up for organized sports leagues, to give them a workout, and to give away a ton of sporting equipment.”
At the event, the Orlando Orthopaedic Center Foundation, in partnership with Sports 4 The Kids, was able to provide 100 youth sports scholarships and more than $1,000 worth of brand new sports equipment, including three bikes, to kids in Seminole County. Also, Fleet Feet Orlando donated more than 120 pairs of shoes to families in need.
The sports camp scholarships that were offered further the mission of the Orlando Orthopedic Center Foundation to help underserved children participate in quality youth sports programs. The Orlando Orthopaedic Center Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

2017 High School Sports Physicals
Every year the Orlando Orthopaedic Center Foundation partners with area schools to provide pre-participation high school sports physicals to their students. As a fundraiser for the school athletic departments, the schools charge a nominal fee for each physical.
Physicians and sports medicine specialists from Orlando Orthopaedic Center donate more than 250 hours of their time to provide sports physicals to students throughout Central Florida from April to August. Many of the students would not be able to afford these necessary sports screenings if it weren’t for the reduced costs offered at these events.
To learn more, contact your school’s athletic department directly or call Andy Reber, sports medicine outreach coordinator for Orlando Orthopaedic Center, at (407) 254-2501 or email him here.
