Linda Agard-Ryan is a Howard University graduate who developed her OT hand therapy career here in Central FL over the span of 25 years, having worked at Healthsouth Rehabilitation, Matthews Clinic Rehabilitation, Florida Hospital Rehabilitation and presently Select Physical Therapy. She obtained her Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) certification in 2001 and UE Certified Orthopaedic Manual Therapist (COMT) certification in 2023. Outside of hand therapy, Linda is passionate about her 2 amazing sons, singing, her health coaching business and developing her voice over business. Linda loves travel, laughter and life!

Tatianna Barrett is a Doctor of Physical Therapy, she graduated from Nova Southeastern University in 2016. Following graduation, Barrett participated in a one year orthopedic residency program and upon completion of the program and national board exam, is a board certified orthopedic clinical specialist. Barrett has been an adjunct faculty member for Nova Southeastern University DPT program for their Musculoskeletal courses and Differential Diagnosis since 2018. Barrett recently completed a dance medicine physical therapy certification program to further delve into the performing arts/dance population. Barrett currently works at Orlando Orthopedic Center in Lake Mary. On a personal note, she loves spending time with her husband and friends, working out doing Crossfit, and exploring, tasting, and cooking all things in the vegan culinary world!

Mark Beckett graduated from Northwestern University’s Physical Therapy Program. Beckett has over 40 years of experience in an Outpatient Orthopaedic Physical Therapy setting. Beckett has lectured extensively throughout the United States on the subject of Lower Extremity Biomechanics and Sports Related Pathologies. Beckett is a Certified Orthopedic Manual Therapist.

Michael Kaplan, PT, DPT, CMPT completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Central Florida before earning his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Florida Gulf Coast University in 2013. He currently serves as a physical therapist and the clinical director at Ability Rehabilitation’s Winter Park office. With 10 years’ experience as a PT, Michael specializes in helping patients work through various orthopedic conditions through the use of manual therapy and a fitness-forward approach.
Specializing in exercise prescription and hope-dealing, Michael most enjoys taking sedentary individuals of all ages and moving them towards a more active lifestyle. Kaplan has recently completed a certification in Modern Management of the Older Adult through the Institute of Clinical Excellence, a series of courses designed to re-examine and challenge traditional models of care for older adults.
Michael lives in Winter Park with his wife Julia and three children. Outside of the clinic, Michael enjoys trail running, growing bonsai trees, and coaching his son’s baseball team.

Robyn E. Lewis is the Regional Director of Work Strategies for Select Medical based in Atlanta, Georgia. She received her degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Florida and has specialized in work related musculoskeletal injury prevention and recovery for over 29 years in the outpatient and industrial setting. Lewis has worked directly with more than 150 employers developing musculoskeletal prevention, ergonomics, and management programs to decrease injuries and associated costs. She leads education efforts with the national WorkStrategies team to improve clinician knowledge and patient outcomes for work related conditions as well as provides training including Employment testing, Functional Capacity Evaluation, Work Conditioning, and psychologically informed therapy approaches. Robyn has presented numerous times to clinicians, physicians, case managers, occupational health nurses, and employers on various industrial topics focusing on worker safety and patient rehabilitation.

Gabrielle N. Sombelon MS, LAT, ATC, COHC
Gabrielle “Gabby” Sombelon has been a certified Athletic Trainer since 2015. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Florida in 2015 and followed with her master’s degree at the University of Kentucky in 2017. Sombelon started her career by working as an outreach Athletic Trainer with the University of Kentucky sports medicine team. Sombelon moved back to central Florida to work in the secondary school setting as well as Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports. Sombelon current works in the industrial setting for Pivot Onsite Innovations | Athletico. On a personal note, she loves kayaking, days at Disney and bonding with family and friends.

Educational Overview
Course Description
This program focuses on evidence-based practices for non-surgical and surgical procedures used to treat orthopaedic conditions associated with musculoskeletal trauma of the knee, ankle, wrist, elbow, and spine. It includes a brief overview of the related anatomy, as well as rehabilitation considerations for non-operative treatment options and post-surgical therapy protocols. This program describes the importance of clinical options with functional movement assessments for chronic musculoskeletal injuries. This course discusses the basics and strategies of prevention and recovery of the unmotivated and motivated worker in the workplace. Program content is designed to assist healthcare providers with acquiring the skills and knowledge to provide quality care and improve patient outcomes.

The material covered by the 2023 19th Annual Orthopaedic Update Conference includes domains 1, 2, and 4 of the BOC Role Delineation/Practice Analysis, 7th edition (Injury and Illness Prevention and Wellness Promotion, Examination, Assessment and Diagnosis and Therapeutic Intervention). In addition, the new BOC Orthopaedic Specialty domains Medical Knowledge and Procedural Knowledge. According to the education levels described by the Professional Development Committee of the NATA, the following continuing education course is considered to be Essential and/or Advanced Level to offer continuing education for Certified Athletic Trainers, Physical Therapists and Physical Therapist Assistants.
