Course Description

This program focuses on evidence-based practices for the implementation of both core muscle stabilization and strengthening exercises designed for injury prevention, rehabilitation, and performance in sport. It includes a brief overview of the anatomy and function of core muscle groups. Physiological considerations and differences will be discussed when applying core muscle stabilization and strengthening exercises. Specific core stabilization and strengthening exercises will be demonstrated with the appropriate rehabilitation progressions. Program content is designed to assist physical therapists and athletic trainers with acquiring the skills and knowledge to provide quality care and to improve patient outcomes with core muscle pathologies.

Educational Objectives

  1. Participants will be able to discuss and describe the anatomy, function, and biomechanics of core musculature as related to injury prevention, rehabilitation, and muscle strengthening.
  2. Participants will be able to describe and implement core stabilization exercises for injury prevention and rehabilitation.
  3. Participants will be able to discuss the physiology and considerations when progressing from core stabilization to core strengthening exercises.
  4. Participants will be able to discuss and implement core strengthening exercises for rehabilitation and sport.
  5. Participants will be able to discuss and integrate current research findings related to orthopaedics and rehabilitation to improve clinical practice and quality of care.
